Hello, welcome to horse mac topper website. You'll find here the fully downloadable horse mac topper album "home chooper recordings".
All the songs have been recorded on a four track cassette recorder and been put on computer via cubase sx. Every song has been recorded in one take more because of my latent laziness than because of some lo fi concept.
The album features 18 songs recorded between 2003 and 2005 and are mostly songs that i couldn't do with my other bands or that I felt more as "solo" stuff. The oldest songs are "in the middle of nowhere", "while you dive slowly into nothing", and "little dream" all written and recorded during spring of 2003 (except little dream who has a spring version and a summer version; on the cd it's the second version, remade because of sound problems on the first one), a period of deep depression and of lack of money.
Then comes "these days", my first (and only?) "full", orchestrate song, where 4 tracks were not enough. This song has been written during spring of 2003, the same night as the second take of "little dream" on my parents great sounding piano. Winter 2003 was a special period where I started using a computer as a direct recorder, but still using a small cheap microphone. I recorded 2 songs like that, "our victim" and "love conspiracy", that i recorded drunk, with a friend (foxglove 's guitarist, nick beat, who wrote the main guitar theme of "our victim"). But i quickly quit recording this way, didn't like the sound for the other tracks except for very quick demos such as "carwash and sunburn" (previously written for foxglove) that was supposed to be sent to Nick Beat to work on it, but finally we let the song, so I kept it; and I can say I like the very cheap sound and the mistakes in that song, so I didn't record it again.
In the beginning of 2004, I found old lyrics I had lost, so I wrote new songs and recorded : "the sunshine has to die" , "monday morning" (I use the lyrics of this one in a foxglove song, also called monday morning) and "a thing about the past". I wrote those lyrics during 2003 at the same time as "in the middle of nowhere" etc... Then come the "tapir songs" songs I wrote autumn 2004 for a girl who missed Paris; you can hear street noises on "tapir song 2".
Foxglove producer's Josh lent me an old bontempi, fucking good little keyboard actually, and so I tried it in writing "electronic tapir" and "last train", song about people getting mad in the subway, during late winter 2004. When I realized that I had 16 songs ready to be burnt, I decided to make a cd that I'll give to people or sell it for 1€ or 2 or a beer, and that I'll prepare a small website. I hope you'll enjoy the music and give me positive (or negative, as you wish) feedback, by sending me a mail at: horsemactopper@foxglove.fr.st.
Have a great day.
